With this program, AEP Texas is offering a $125 per unit incentive to multifamily property owners for the installation of ENERGY STAR smart thermostats in existing buildings.
Many residents find smart thermostats to be a useful amenity and they are rapidly becoming standard.
Smart Thermostats allow residents to have more control over their comfort and energy use.
·Some can learn your schedule and adjust heating and cooling settings to maximize comfort and energy savings.
They can allow residents to view and control thermostat settings remotely, via smartphone apps on mobile devices.
Some include geofencing, which can adjust heating and cooling settings when you’re on your way home, for example.
·Some retail electric providers offer incentives to customers in exchange for allowing the companies to control thermostat settings during peak demand periods.
What can smart thermostats do?
Any existing individually metered multifamily property within AEP Texas’ service territory is eligible.
Apartment units must have individual AC/electric heat systems.

Which thermostats qualify?
To be eligible, thermostats must be ENERGY STAR certified. For a list of eligible models, visit: https://www.energystar.gov/productfinder/product/certified-connected-thermostats/results
Owners can purchase qualifying models from any wholesale or retail channel.
Owners may choose to have installations performed by qualified in-house staff, HVAC, or other contractors.
Program participants may not condition the offer of installing a smart thermostat to the purchase of any other product or service.
How Do I Participate?
Complete and submit on-line application form
·Applications for this pilot program will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis, until 2024 program budget has been fully allocated.
If your application is approved, you will have 60 days to purchase and install all thermostats.
Residents should be provided with instructions on thermostat operation.
